- Description
-
Family records indicate vines were planted in
1882, making this likely the oldest vineyard in
Southern California. Originally 22 acres, only 3
acres remain, planted in Mission and Zinfandel.
The vineyard is reputed to have been planted
from cuttings from vines originally planted at
Mission San Luis Ray in Oceanside. Unlike much
of the Mission plantings in the state which show
some genetic variation from Liston Prieto, the
Spanish parent grape these vines are a exact
DNA match to Liston Prieto (Tested by UC
Davis).
