- Description
-
Family records indicate vines were planted in 1882, making this likely the oldest vineyard in Southern California. Originally 22 acres, only 3 acres planted to Mission and Zinfandel still remain. The vineyard is reputed to have been planted from vine cuttings originally planted at Mission San Luis Rey in Oceanside. Unlike many of the Mission plantings in the state which show some genetic variation from their Spanish parent grape Listan Prieto, UC Davis determine that these vines are an exact DNA match.
