Description

Old vines planted on an ancient alluvial sandbar where the Sacramento and San Joaquin Rivers merge with the cooling waters and breezes of the San Francisco Bay. These gnarly vines are 120 years-old and are head-pruned, non- irrigated, and on their original root stock.

Defying the perils of age and disease, the vines continue to offer their luscious fruit to succeeding generations of winemakers to transform them into bottle history. The spicy elegant wine is a tribute to the dedication of the Evangelho family, who continues to nurture and protect this unique vineyard.

From the Bedrock Wine Co. website:

“Own-rooted on forty-foot-deep banks of beach sand alongside the Sacramento River Delta, Evangelho is a totally unique site. Planted in the 1890s, the vineyard is a viticultural survivor—surrounded by evidence of suburban sprawl encroaching on one of the last agricultural islands left in Contra Costa County. A field-blend of Zinfandel, Carignane, Mourvedre, and others, the wines are fresh, bright, and typically have some of the lowest pHs of any of the Bedrock wines.”
