Description

A true pre-prohibition Zinfandel vineyard, Katz Vineyard was planted in 1900 and is Quivira’s smallest production wine.  Planted as a “Mixed Black” vineyard, with Zinfandel as the primary variety (>90%) it also includes Petite Sirah, Carignane, Alicante Bouschet, and even some white varieties.  There are also varieties we can’t yet identify.  The sandy, gravelly loam soil yields grapes, and wine, with exceptional natural acidity, even when picked fully ripe.  This tiny vineyard in the Lytton Springs area consistently produces a wine that embodies the essence of Dry Creek Valley with a mix of both red and dark fruits, baking spice, and subtle earthiness.
