Characteristics

Aromas of ripe cherry, black tea, and clove. On the palate a hint of tobacco is met with flavors of pomegranate, blackberry, cassis, and toasted oak.

Description

Planted in 1909, this old and gnarly 8-acre Carignane vineyard produces beautiful fruit with wonderful flavors and aromas. There are also a few Alicante Bouschet vines scattered throughout the blocks. The vineyard is head-trained, planted on a 10′ x 10′ spacing, and fitted with a drip irrigation system. In 2020, one-third of the vineyard was replanted and now the young vines are used in our rosé program.

Facts

This Carignane vineyard gets hand-picked twice. The first pick is a small amount for our rosé program at very low sugar. The second pick is usually a month and a half later at a higher sugar level for the red Carignane.

The soil is silty and sandy which is typical being next to the Mokelumne River.

The vineyard is LODI RULES Sustainable Winegrowing certified.
